The JCRC CTL laboratory
This was an immunology research lab run as a collaborative project between JCRC and our partners at San Francisco Department of Health in the USA. The lab was established with funding from NIH in 1998 primarily for cytotoxic T lymphocyte analysis as part of the ALVAC vaccine trial, the first HIV vaccine trial in Africa that was conducted at JCRC. The research laboratory provided high expertise technical input to several immunology research activities. Currently, the laboratory lab is closed because of financial hurdles. Before its closure however, the laboratory participated in two Phase I Vaccine trials: (i) the JTV a Phase 1B, Safety and Immunogenicity of LFn-P24C vaccine in HIV infected Adult Ugandan Volunteers who undergo monitored treatment interruption, and (ii) the HPTN 027a Phase I study to evaluate the safety and immunogenicity of ALVAC-HIV vCP1521 in infants born to HIV infected women in Uganda.
JCRC Vision: A vibrant self-sustaining Centre of Excellence in Medical Research, Training and Healthcare Services.
JCRC Mission: To conduct Quality Medical Research and Training, provide equitable and sustainable HIV/AIDS care and other health care services in Uganda and other parts of Africa
