The JCRC Mubende Regional Centre of Excellence

Overview
The JCRC Mubende RCE is located in Mubende district of Central Uganda, currently housed within the Ministry of Health Mubende Regional Referral hospital.  The clinic started as a JCRC satelite clinic in 2007 with an initial client base of 27, which expanded up to 4,982 by Jun 2010. Currently, all JCRC patient care activities have been passed on to the SUSTAIN project, and the RCE is implementing the THALAS project with four JCRC staff on site.

Activities
  • Patient care outreach clinics:  During the implementation of the TREAT project, The RCE collaborated with several regional HIV care organisations including ICOBI, RTI, PREFAR, ACTION AID, UPHOLD, PACE, EGPAF, MINNESOTA VOLUNTERS, INTERNATIONAL HIV/AIDS ALLIANCE, PSI, MUTINET, RURAL HEALTH FOUNDATION, AND CAWODISA to roll-out antiretroviral therapy to the communities. Lower sites that were supported by the RCE included KASSANDA HCIV, BUKUYA HCIII, KIGANDA HCII, NABINGOOLA HCII, KASAMBYA HCIV, BUTOLOGO HCII, ST.PADREPIO, among others. Services offered mainly were patient care and conducting outreaches in health facilities providing VCT, ART counseling, Adherence counseling, provision laboratory services, septrine prophylaxis and psychosocial support.
