The SUSTAIN Program

This HIV treatment roll-out program is being implemented in Uganda. The key activities under this program are:

Ensure provision of HIV/AIDS care and associated counseling in public regional referral hospitals and district hospitals
Assess and help to improve upon existing laboratory services for HIV/AIDS patients
Train district and regional hospital staff, improve upon existing methods of care and treatment, and introduce the chronic care model to more effectively treat HIV/AIDS and other chronic diseases
Increase stewardship by the MoH to provide fully integrated and sustainable quality care and treatment for people living with HIV/AIDS

JCRC is partnering with the University Research Council (URC) to implement this program. JCRC's major roles are:

To transition all clients under TREAT into the SUSTAIN-supported and/or USAID supported sites
To provide HIV treatment to 6000 clients and HIV care services to 9000 clients at the JCRC Kampala clinic
To provide expertise in laboratory testing and training in all MOH and SUSTAIN operational sites
To act as a referral site providing advanced HIV care services for complicated cases
