This symposium proceedings capture the scientific deliberations, research presentations, and consensus
outcomes of the Sickle Cell Disease Scientific Symposium held on June 16, 2026, at the Golden Tulip
Hotel, Kampala.

The symposium served as a key pre-commemoration event ahead of World Sickle Cell Day 2026. It brought together researchers, clinicians, policymakers, patient advocates, and implementing partners to review Uganda’s progress in Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) management and chart a path forward.

The proceedings document the presentations, panel discussions, and key consensus points that emerged from the four sessions: Basic Science and Epidemiology, SCD Treatment Advances, Testing and Care Programs, and the Cure Agenda. The symposium’s findings provide a strong evidence base for accelerating Uganda’s national SCD response.
